While craftsman made all manner of crazy Windsor chair styles during the eighteenth century it’s fair to say they didn’t make tavern chairs with swivel. It is a modern adaptation. We resisted for years because the metal swivel was unsightly. Douglas P. Dimes came up with the idea of recessing the swivel as far in the base as possible and this is the result. We used the Henzey seat style because unlike our classic Bowback Side Chair it was large enough to accommodate the swivel mechanism. It’s not a reproduction but done as well as it can be. We make them all the time
