The Massachusetts Fanback Arm chair is a copy of an original from coastal Massachusetts and the islands. It is fairly unique among period Windsor chairs in that the arm chair has an oval seat. It is called a Fanback Arm chair because the spindles run uninterrupted from the seat to the comb. There is no arm bending through which the spindles run. The arms are attached to each style. Many of this style Windsor chair were originally made as brace backs.
