During 1976, Douglas R. Dimes was asked to reproduce a chair for Independence Hall. Naturally, Mr. Dimes was amenable to the idea. As one of his first commissions, he chose the Gilpin Comb-back. Thomas Gilpin was one of the earliest known American chairmakers. We still make the chair today.

In 1980, D.R.DIMES was commissioned again to make large Philadelphia Lowback Windsor Benches for the public areas of the museum. After almost 30 years of constant use they are still there.
