Windsor chairs were rarely made as rockers originally in the eighteenth century. Most rockers were added during the first part of the nineteenth century when the Boston rocker became fashionable. Ever resourceful, early Americans used pieces they already had to serve a new purpose. Still, we think rocking chairs are beautiful and useful forms.
