Block front styles were made almost exclusively in eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. To accentuate the block front design, this Boston chest has a more vertical emphasis in its proportion than most four drawer chests of the period. The wonderful oversize brasses are typical for the piece and a sign of prosperity for the owner.
